What Are the Characteristics of Genre? What is Genre?
A genre is a category of literary composition, such as poetry,
fiction, nonfiction, and drama. Literary genre has hundreds of subcategories such as historical fiction, westerns, mystery, suspense, science fiction, satire, comedy, romance, adventure or horror. Each genre has its own 
literary techniques, literary devices, tone, content, or even length. conventions, structures, styles, and organization.

The four main types literary genres are poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and drama. Media is considered a 5th genre!
